The prosecutor’s office in the Kiliya district of the Odessa region has opened two criminal proceedings in connection with release of effluent into River Danube in excess of the maximum allowable volume, the press service of the regional prosecutor's office has announced.

Law enforcement officials have uncovered cases of abuse of power by officials at a public joint-stock company and a utility, the actions of which caused environmental damage worth about UAH 3 million during the period of 2011-2012.

The criminal proceedings were opened under Section 1 of Article 364-1 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code (abuse of power).

As reported, the Odessa regional prosecutor’s office returned a vessel worth UAH 11 million to the state in in October this year.
