Two more trams donated by the Swiss city of Basel have arrived in Lviv.
The CFTS portal reported this, citing Lviv’s Lvivelektrotrans transport utility.
"On the 1580-km route from Oberwil (Basel) to Lviv, the trams travel on flatbed trailers and without pantographs. However, our technicians will quickly reinstall the pantographs at wagon repair shops," Lvivelektrotrans said in a statement.
There is no need to re-equip the bogies, as the track gauges in Lviv and Basel are the same. However, the trams must undergo a certification adaptation process to meet Ukrainian standards.
In total, Lviv will receive up to 25 of these trams from the Basel Transport Company, and an additional 10 railcars will be used as donors of spare parts.
Last year, Lviv received 6 low-floor trams from Berne free of charge. These trams are currently being prepared for operation on Lviv routes. The remaining 5 trams are expected to be delivered by March this year.
In addition, the Berlin Transport Company donated 12 energy-efficient KT4D trams and spare parts to Lviv in 2024. Technicians at Lvivelektrotrans' wagon repair shop, reconfigured the trams to fit the width of Lviv's tracks, replaced some of its equipment, repainted the trams, and gradually put them into service on city routes. All the trams from this batch are already running on city routes.
