The State Aviation Service has approved an application by Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) to launch flights between Kyiv and Guangzhou (China), allowing the Ukrainian carrier to launch a second route to China, the CFTS portal reports.
The permission to launch the flights will take effect on October 1 this year, and it will be valid indefinitely. UIA plans to operate flights to Guangzhou three times per week. It plans to launch the new flights in summer 2018.
Aron Mayberg, the head of UIA’s supervisory board, recently announced plans to launch flights to Shanghai. "It will be Shanghai and, I think, Toronto. There will also be familiar flights: Beijing, New York, Bangkok," he said.
The carrier considers Guangzhou as an alternative to Shanghai because the issue of obtaining the necessary slots at the Shanghai airport remains unresolved.
As reported, UIA currently operates four long-haul flights: to New York, Beijing, Bangkok, and Colombo.
