Port operators in Ukrainian seaports handled 136.968 million tons of cargo in the period of January-November 2021, which is 8.81 million tons or 6% less than they handled in the corresponding period of 2020.
The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
"The negative dynamics of cargo handling in seaports (the rate of reduction of the volume of cargo handling compared with the corresponding periods of 2020) is reducing gradually every month: from 20.4% in the first quarter to 16.5% in the first half of the year and 10% in the first nine months of the year," the USPA said in the statement.
However, the volume of cargo handling in November 2021 exceeded last year's volume by 16.7% to total 15.9 million tons.
In the period of January-November 2021, port operators handled 105.7 million tons of export cargo (a 6% reduction compared with the corresponding period of 2020), 21.52 million tons of import cargo (1.1% reduction), 7.6 million tons of transit cargo (16.7% reduction), and 2.05 million tons of cabotage cargo (10.1% reduction).
Ukrainian seaports handled mostly grain and ore cargoes in January-November 2021: 44.1 million tons of grain (a 0.2% reduction) and 34.2 million tons of ore (15.8% reduction).
The volume of transshipment of petroleum products increased by 72.7% to 1.73 million tons in January-November 2021.
In addition, Ukrainian seaports handled 923,212 TEU of containers in January-November 2021 (a 3.1% reduction compared with January-November 2020).
Five ports exceeded their transshipment volumes in January-November 2021, compared with January-November 2020: the Chornomorsk seaport handled 22.85 million tons (a 5.1% increase), the Olvia seaport 4.58 million tons (25.5% increase), the Izmail seaport 3.57 million tons (20.2% increase), the Reni seaport 1.2 million tons (34.1% increase), and the Ust-Danube seaport 50,400 tons (100% increase).
The Odesa and Mariupol seaports almost achieved last year's transshipment figures, with the Odesa seaport handling 20.5 million tons of cargo in January-November 2021 (4.2% reduction) and the Mariupol seaport 6.3 million tons (3% reduction).
As the CFTS portal reported earlier, port operators in Ukrainian seaports handled 120.872 million tons of cargo in January-October 2021, which is 11.25 million tons or 8.5% less than they handled in the corresponding period of last year. During this period, port operators handled 93.1 million tons of export cargo (8.2% reduction compared with the corresponding period of 2020) and 19.18 million tons of import cargo (3.8% reduction).
