Ukrainian seaports handled 91.729 million tons of cargo in the first eight months of 2021, which is 14,232 tons or 13.4% less than they handled in the corresponding period of 2020.
The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
During this period, port operators handled 70.2 million tons of export cargoes (a 13.1% reduction compared with the corresponding period of 2020), 15.36 million tons of import cargoes (4.7% reduction), 5.1 million tons of transit cargoes (29.5% reduction), and 1.01 million tons of cabotage cargoes (41% reduction).
Ukrainian seaports handled 24.3 million tons of ore (19.4% reduction), 26.1 million tons of grain (16.8% reduction), and 1.19 million tons of petroleum products (48% increase).
They also handled 672,956 TEU of containers in the first eight months of this year, which is 2.5% less than they handled in the corresponding period of 2020.
Only two seaports exceeded the transshipment volumes that they registered in the first eight months of last year in the corresponding period of this year. The Izmail seaport handled 2.5 million tons of cargo (a 17.4% increase compared with the corresponding period of 2020) and the Ust-Danube seaport handled 34,600 tons (138% increase).
The Olvia and Reni seaports almost reached last year’s cargo handling volumes in the first eight months of this year. The Olvia seaport handled 2.65 million tons of cargo in the first eight months of this year (0.4% reduction) and the Reni seaport handled 586,000 tons (0.5% reduction).
As the CFTS portal reported, the volume of cargo transshipment in Ukrainian seaports reduced by 15.2 million tons or 16.6% to 76.5 million tons in January-July 2021, compared with the corresponding period of 2020. This included 21.7 million tons of ore (18.2% reduction) and 20 million tons of grain (24% reduction).
