The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) has transported petroleum products from Germany in its own railcars for the first time.
Ukrzaliznytsia announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
"For the first time in history, the company has organized the transportation of petroleum products from Germany to Ukraine in its own railcars. For this, we used specialized ZACNS tank cars designed for the European standard 1435 mm railway gauge," the statement said.
UZ Cargo Poland Sp. z o.o., a subsidiary of Ukrzaliznytsia operating as the official rail freight carrier in the EU, handled the entire route from Hamburg to the Ukrainian border.
"At present, Ukrzaliznytsia has succeeded in convincing key players in the fuel market to use our rail transport services and our end-to-end logistics with the support of our subsidiary UZ Cargo Poland," the company said.
Regular rail shipments are now taking place from Poland, Lithuania, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, and, most recently, Germany.
Thanks to these services, import volumes increased by 5.4% to 5.3 million tons in six months.
However, the overall freight transport dynamics remain negative: 79.6 million tons of cargo were transported in the first half of 2025, an 11.8% decrease compared to the same period last year.
