The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (JSC Ukrzaliznytsia) has allowed transportation of bicycles not only on night trains, but also on the Intercity and Intercity+ high-speed trains.

Ukrzaliznytsia’s head Yevhen Kravtsov announced this on Facebook, the CFTS portal reports.

According to him, Ukrzaliznytsia is hostage to the situation because high-speed trains are designed without the technical capability to transport bicycles.

“The way out of the situation is to dismantle bikes and pack them properly. We do not charge additional fees for their transportation. The same procedure applies on night trains,” Kravtsov wrote.

As the CFTS portal reported earlier, the Ministry of Infrastructure has imposed a limit on transportation of baggage on passenger trains. According to the new rules, a passenger has the right to carry hand baggage weighing up to 50 kilograms in all categories of railcars and trains. Hand luggage weighing up to 36 kilograms, inclusive, is transported free of charge. Payment will be charged for up to 14 kilograms of excess baggage. Hand baggage weighing more than a total of 50 kilograms cannot be transported in passenger cars.

In addition, bicycles cannot be transported in Intercity and Intercity+ high-speed trains if the technical conditions (placed) for their transportation do not exist.
