The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) transported 17 million long-distance passengers in 2022, 32% fewer than the number of long-distance passengers it transported in 2021.
Ukrzaliznytsia announced this in a statement on Thursday, the CFTS portal reports.
"A record 1.4 million passengers were transported on the routes between Ukraine and the European Union," the statement said.
The company also stated that 80% of its long-distance trains arrived on schedule in 2022 despite the war. Out of the 19,000 trains it operated, 16% departed on schedule and 20% arrived behind schedule.
Ukrzaliznytsia’s trains transported over 25 million passengers on long-distance routes in 2021. This number is half the number of passengers it transported on long-distance routes in the pre-COVID period. For comparison, Ukrzaliznytsia transported 55.9 million long-distance passengers in 2018 and 53.3 million in 2019.
