The volume of goods transported on River Dnipro increased by 19% to 11.8 million tons in 2019.
The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
In particular, transportation of metal products on River Dnipro increased by almost 33% to 1.7 million tons in 2019. Transportation of grain on the river increased by almost 54.3% to 4.85 million tons in 2019, compared with 2018.
Transportation of petroleum products on the river reduced by 45% to 37.4 thousand tons in 2019, compared with 2018.
Cargo transportation on River Dnipro is increasing against the backdrop of a 27% reduction in the number of ship journeys. This indicates an increase in the utilized capacity of ships and improvement of shipping conditions. According to the statement, this is due to the dredging of River Dnipro, among other things.
As the CFTS portal reported, Ukrainian steel plants increased transportation of metal products on River Dnipro by 32.9% to 1.7 million tons in 2019, compared with 2018.
As the CFTS portal also reported, the number of passengers using domestic and foreign water transport is increasing annually.
