The Ministry of Infrastructure has launched a pilot project for independent quality control of road repairs in the Kiev region. Infrastructure Minister Andrii Pyvovarskyi announced this during a briefing in the Cabinet of Ministers on Friday, June 26, the CFTS correspondent reports.
"We are launching a pilot project with foreign inspectors of roads in Ukraine. We held talks with five foreign companies that provide engineering services. We have started working with the Austrian group IC Consulenten - the largest Austrian company, which operates in 50 countries," said the minister.
The pilot project will last about one month, and the plan is to extend it beyond the Kiev region at the beginning of autumn.
The money for implementation of the project this year will be allocated by the World Bank. According to the head of the Ministry of Infrastructure’s department of strategic development of the road market and road transport, Roman Khmil, USD 300,000-400,000 out of the second tranche of the World Bank loan will be allocated specifically for this project.
As reported, in addition to involving foreign companies in monitoring the quality of road repairs, the Ministry of Infrastructure has also begun working with citizens on this issue. For example, the ministry has started publishing weekly data on the patching of roads and asking the public to report cases of poor-quality repair work.
