The Beskyd tunnel will be opened in 2017, Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian announced at the II Ukrainian Infrastructure Forum, which is taking place in Kyiv.
According to Omelian, this project has survived 12 governments and two revolutions, but "the Beskyd tunnel will be opened this year. Infrastructure projects take a long time, but they last for a long time," the minister said.
As reported, the construction of roads and installation of a catenary system have begun on the approach to the Beskyd tunnel. The laying of tracks inside the tunnel itself will begin in the fourth quarter of 2017 and the final finishing work is currently taking place.
All the work involving construction of the tunnel is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017 and the tunnel is scheduled to be commissioned in the second quarter of 2018.
