Builders have already drilled one kilometer of the Beskydsky railway, which is more than half of its total length (1,765 meters), the press service of the Lviv regional administration reports.
Construction work began on 29 October 2013, and the facility is expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2017. The project is financed with loans of EUR 40 million and EUR 55 million, respectively, from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, as well as with the resources of the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia).
The Beskydsky tunnel is of strategic importance to Ukraine because goods are transported to the western border of the country through this route and more than 60% of the goods on transit to Western and Central Europe go through the route.
