The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the distribution of state budget funds in the road sector in 2016, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports.

According to the press service of the State Automobile Road Service (Ukravtodor) the state budget funds intended for development of the road sector this year are intended for minor maintenance and winter maintenance of roads, as well as for complex road works and scientific research into road management.

The largest amounts are expected to be spent on intermediate maintenance of public roads (about UAH 3.5 billion), as well as on minor maintenance and operational maintenance of public roads, which include winter maintenance, implementation of road safety measures, elimination of road-surface deformations, and so on (UAH 2.5 billion).

In addition, state budget funds are allocated for financing scientific research into road management (UAH 26 million) in 2016.

About UAH 450 million is allocated for financing joint projects with international financial institutions and about UAH 53 million for repaying the existing debts for work performed in previous years.

According to a directive approved by the government, about UAH 20 million will be allocated for monitoring the state of roads and the quality of road works.

According to Ukravtodor, the parliament adopted the law "On the State Budget of Ukraine for 2016," which allocates UAH 6.574 billion for financing the country’s road sector this year, on 25 December 2015.
