The Cabinet of Ministers has delivered a report on repair of roads in 2016. According to the report, 816 kilometers of roads were repaired in Ukraine in 2016 and protective layers of tarmac were laid on an additional 711 kilometers. In addition, 9 million square meters of potholes were patched.
As reported on the Facebook page of the government portal, this year’s state budget allocated about UAH 8 billion for repair and maintenance of roads and international financial institutions provided an additional UAH 1.4 billion.
The state budget for 2017 will allocate UAH 14.2 billion for modernization of roads.
"An additional UAH 15 billion should be obtained, thanks to the extension the experiment that involves spending 50% of surplus customs revenues on roads to all regions. Up to UAH 27.2 billion in aid is expected from international financial institutions," information on the government portal states.
This year, the experiment that involves spending 50% of surplus customs revenues on roads was performed only in four regions (the Odesa, Volyn, Lviv, and Chernivtsi regions).
