Operators in Ukrainian seaports handled 158.86 million tons of cargo in 2020, which is 1.14 million tons or 0.7% less than the volume they handled in 2019.

The Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA) announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

According to the statement, transshipment of export cargo increased by 1.5% to 122.84 million tons and transshipment of coastal cargo by 10.7% to 2.37 million tons in 2020, compared with 2019. Transshipment of import cargo reduced by 8.6% to 23.63 million tons and transshipment of transit cargo by 9.1% to 10 million tons in 2020, compared with 2019.

Ore and grain cargoes remained the leaders in terms of transshipment volumes. The volume of transshipment of grain cargo reduced by 6.61 million tons or 12.1% to 48 million tons in 2020, compared with 2019.

The volume of transshipment of ore cargo increased by 6.9 million tons or 18.5% to 44.22 million tons in 2020, compared with 2019.

Transshipment of ferrous metals increased by 8.6% to 16.64 million tons, transshipment of crude oil by 6.7% to 6.2 million tons, and transshipment of oil 2.2-fold to 2.15 million tons.

Container transshipment reached 1.05 million TEU in 2020, exceeding the previous year's figure by 4.1%.

As reported, the largest state stevedoring company in Ukraine, the Pivdennyi seaport, handled a record 18.8 million tons of cargo and the largest private port operator in the country, the TIS company, handled 36.6 million tons in 2020.
