The first shipload of coal from South Africa will arrive in Ukraine during the period of October 15-19, the Ukrinterenergo state enterprise’s Director Volodymyr Zinevych told reporters in Kiev on Tuesday, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports.
"We expect the first three vessels sometime around October 15-19. Prices will have to be converted on DDP terms to enable the seller to pay for delivery to the station. Of course, it will be more expensive because of VAT, but we have no other options," he said.
As the PFTS portal wrote earlier, the cost of the coal being imported from South Africa to meet the needs of the state-controlled Tsentrenergo power generating company is USD 91 per ton in a Ukrainian port.
The consignment of coal in the first vessel will be about 87,000 tons, and monthly deliveries under the contract with South Africa are expected to reach about 250,000 tons. While the South African coal is on the way, Tsentrenergo will partially meet its needs by purchasing Russian coal.
