The state-owned Administration of River Ports has applied to the Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration to allocate a land plot for constructing a river port with a multimodal terminal.
The Zakarpattia Regional Military Administration’s first deputy head Myroslav Biletskyi announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
The prospects for the implementation of this project were discussed during a meeting with experts from the relevant departments of the regional military administration and border guards.
"The idea is that thanks to a multimodal terminal, it is possible to organize international transport on the Tisza, with access to larger navigable rivers," the press service of the regional military administration said.
"The river port and the multimodal terminal will be the first facilities of this type in Zakarpattia. It is difficult to overestimate its importance for international transportation to the country and our region, in particular. We are studying the documentation and problematic issues and communicating with all interested entities to develop a strategy for the fastest possible implementation of the project," Biletskyi said.
He did not specify where the facility would be built. However, judging by the photo presentation, the port will be built near the railway bridge about 1 kilometer from the Tysa (Chop) - Záhony border crossing.
The Tisza River forms the state border between Ukraine and Romania and Ukraine and Hungary in some sections, then it forms 5 kilometers of the state border between Slovakia and Hungary, and then it flows through Hungary to Serbia, where it flows into the Danube River.
