The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) has announced temporary changes in the timetables of passenger trains to Zakarpattia because of large-scale works on laying the European standard gauge railway between Chop and Uzhhorod, the CFTS portal reports.

From 31 March to 31 July, the following trains will run to/from the Mukacheve station: No. 17/18 Kharkiv-Uzhhorod; No. 38/37 Odesa-Uzhhorod; No. 125/126-129/130 Kremenchuk/Poltava-Uzhhorod.

The following trains will run to/from the Chop station: No. 81/82 Kyiv-Uzhhorod (from 31 March to 31 July); No. 749/750 Kyiv-Uzhhorod (from 1 April to 31 July); No. 829/830 Lviv-Uzhhorod (from 1 April to 31 July).

Train No. 59/60 Kyiv-Chop will run to/from the Uzhhorod station from 31 March to 31 July.

Alternative train routes will ensure continued rail connectivity with Uzhhorod from all regions.

To this end, Ukrzaliznytsia will reroute the following trains via Sambir and Sianky from 31 March to 31 July: No. 4/3 Zaporizhia-Uzhhorod; No. 29/30 Kyiv-Uzhhorod; No. 45/46 Kharkiv-Uzhhorod; No. 368/367 Kovel/Lutsk-Uzhhorod.

During this period, railway workers will reconstruct the neck of the Chop station; overhaul the tracks at the Strumkivka and Chop stations; dismantle the broad-gauge track on the Chop-Strumkivka section and lay 8.3 kilometers of European standard gauge track; install about 10 kilometers of catenary and overhead lines along the new double-track section between Chop and Strumkivka.

Railway workers will also install signaling and communications equipment along the entire 22-kilometer section of the Chop-Uzhhorod Railway, implement centralized dispatching, repair over 30 buildings and structures (passenger pavilions, platforms, station buildings, etc.), repair 33 switches and about 13 kilometers of track, and perform other necessary work.
