The German railway company, Deutsche Bahn, is studying the possibility of running Ukrainian grain cars installed on converted 1435-mm-gauge bogies on the EU railway network.
Volodymyr Shemaev, the deputy director of the department of investment operations at the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia), stated this in an interview with the CFTS portal.
"DB is currently working on a consulting project that should provide an answer to the question of which countries can allow Ukrainian grain cars attached to 1435-mm bogies on their railway networks," he said.
According to Shemaev, Deutsche Bahn is currently conducting a survey of railway infrastructure operators at the request of Ukrzaliznytsia.
"I think that we will know the results soon," he said.
As the CFTS portal reported earlier, the possibility of creating a joint venture for operating regular unit trains from the Ukrainian border to specific German ports or logistics hubs is being studied within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding on long-term assistance and support that was signed between Deutsche Bahn and Ukrzaliznytsia.
