European transmission system operators have agreed to increase electricity supplies from Ukraine from 250 MW to 300 MW during the day and night.
This was announced by the Ukrenergo national power company, the Liga publication reports.
The relevant permit will be valid from 07:00 to 23:00, European time, on weekdays (16 hours) and from 09:00 to 23:00 on weekends (14 hours).
During the remaining hours of the day, the capacity will remain unchanged at 250 MW.
"To further assess the volume of electricity exports from Ukraine, ENTSO-E needs to perform additional calculations of the operating regimes of Ukrainian nuclear power plants during potential emergencies in the European energy system. The Ukrenergo national power company will actively assist its European partners in finalizing this study and submit a request for additional expansion of the export capacities to ENTSO-E this month," Ukrenergo said.
Ukraine will export equal amounts of electricity to Slovakia and Romania (150 MW each during the day and evening and 125 MW at nights) from 6 September.
The available transmission capacity between Ukraine and Romania and Ukraine Slovakia was 100 MW as of 30 June. It was increased to 250 MW on 30 July.
Ukraine is ready to increase exports significantly more than currently allowed in the EU. According to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine has an electricity export potential of up to 2.5 GW. Under such a scenario, the country will be able to earn more than UAH 70 billion per year from electricity exports.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyi said at the Ambrozetti economic forum on 2 September that Ukraine can export electricity equal to at least 8% of Italy’s total consumption despite all its difficulties.
