The heads of the railways of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, and Romania have signed a memorandum on development of transportation of transit cargo through the Europe-Asia corridor, the Business Georgia publication reports.
The relevant meeting was held in the Romanian city of Constanta. According to the spokesman for Azerbaijan Railways, Nadir Azmamedov, Romania showed great interest in transportation of cargo on transit through the territory of Azerbaijan, given the large volume of the trade turnover between Romania and Central Asian countries.
"During the roundtable, the participants in it discussed the possibility of organizing transportation of cargo from Europe to Asia via the Romanian port of Constanta and the Georgian port of Poti through the territory of Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Iran, as well as in the opposite direction, ways of resolving problematic issues, and the work that was done previously," the agency quoted Azmammadov as saying.
According to him, the Azerbaijani delegation also held a meeting with TRACECA’s national secretary for Romania Maria Grigore to discuss Azerbaijan’s transit capabilities, the potential of the transport corridors passing through the country, and cooperation with Romania in this area.
As reported earlier, Azerbaijan will introduce uniform preferential tariffs for transit cargo.
