Icebreaker assistance into and out of ports of Rostov-on-Don, Azov, and Taganrog has resumed. The PortNews website reported this, citing a statement that the Taganrog seaport’s acting captain Alexander Danilenko made at a meeting of the Basin Commission on icebreaker assistance at seaports and approaches to them.
Icebreaker assistance was resumed because of improved weather conditions in the region. "Movement to the north and south is planned for today. A caravan is already moving on the Don River," said Danilenko.
Two icebreakers – the Captain Chudinov icebreaker and the Captain Moshkin icebreaker - jointly perform icebreaker assistance of vessels out of the Sea of Azov. The caravan consists of 16 ships from Rostov-on-Don, 11 from Azov, and three from Taganrog.
According Danilenko, movement of ships into ports in the Gulf of Taganrog is expected to start soon. The Captain Demidov icebreaker is currently in the Kerch Strait, and its caravan is expected to consist of 18 ships.
