The Kernel company has shipped grain through a river port for the first time. A consignment of corn was transported through River Dnipro, transshipped onto a ship in a harbor, and shipped to the recipient in China by sea. The company thus delivered grain to China exclusively on water for the first time.
This was announced by the Kernel Trade company’s Director of Logistics Mykola Myroshnychenko, the CFTS portal reports.
"Road, rail, and now river logistics. Another goal of the logistics department team and the Kernel family as a whole has been achieved. For the first time, our grain will travel thousands of kilometers exclusively through a water route – from a river port in Svitlovodsk to the destination port in China. Two barges, 4,000 tons of corn, 800 kilometers on the river in eight days, and loading of the grain onto a ship directly at sea," Myroshnychenko wrote on his Facebook page.
According to the company, the grain was delivered to the Chornomorsk seaport for transshipment in a harbor.
As reported earlier, Kernel is one of the largest agricultural groups in Ukraine. The group’s net profit increased 3.6-fold to USD 189 million in the 2019 fiscal year.
As the CFTS portal reported, Kernel has bought a 100% stake in Rail Transit Cargo Ukraine (RTK Ukraine), which is a rail operator, for USD 64 million. RTK Ukraine owns 2,949 grain carriers and a 15% market share. The company has the largest number of grain carriers in Ukraine after Ukrzaliznytsia.
