The Darnytsia tram depot in Kyiv has completed the overhaul of the fourth tram. According to Kyivpastrans, the municipal transport operator, this modernized Tatra T3 model has already undergone test runs on the tram line without passengers.
The Kyiv City Administration announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
According to Tatiana Tarasko, acting director general of Kyivpastrans, the overhaul especially focused on improving passenger and driver comfort and safety.
The tram was equipped with a heating system, a passenger information system, and video surveillance. An air conditioning system was also installed after the completion of the overhaul.
Other upgrades include a new ceiling, energy-efficient lighting, a complete renewal of electrical systems, painting, replacement of doors and passenger seats, installation of tinted windows, and the application of yellow warning stripes on the steps.
The overhaul began in August this year. On average, such an overhaul takes three to four months, depending on the technical condition of the rolling stock and the availability of the necessary spare parts.
Due to martial law, the work may take longer, but Kyivpastrans specialists are working hard to complete the repairs as quickly as possible and return the tram to service.
According to Kyivpastrans, rolling-stock overhauls are also taking place at the Podil and Shevchenko tram depots. A second T3 tram is already undergoing restoration at the Podil depot.
Overhauls extend the service life of trams by 10 years and improve passenger comfort and safety.
