A new low-floor tram will enter service in Dnipro this week. The tram's launch is scheduled for Thursday, according to Mayor Borys Filatov, as reported by the CFTS portal.
The new low-floor tram is currently undergoing a trial run on one of the city’s routes.
The city expects four more such trams in the future. Tracks have been repaired, and all the necessary infrastructure has been prepared for them.
"Purchasing low-floor trams makes this type of electric transport more convenient and accessible for veterans, people with disabilities, and the elderly. We expect four more such trams. The tracks have been repaired, and the necessary infrastructure has been prepared for them," Filatov said.
Dmytro Kysylevskyi, the deputy chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Economic Development, emphasized that the city has acquired modern trams that are designed in line with the latest industry trends.
"They are Ukrainian-made. Moreover, the K1T306 trams are manufactured right here in Dnipro. The Tatra-Yug company has delighted residents of Kyiv, Odesa, and other regions with its new trams, and now it is finally Dnipro's turn," he said.
The trams have a low-floor configuration, a three-section articulated body, regenerative braking, an autonomous range of three kilometers, and a capacity of 250 passengers.
According to Kysylevskyi, this type of vehicle has long been needed in Dnipro.
"Meanwhile, Ukrainian transport engineering has demonstrated once again its ability to meet domestic demand fully," he said.
"Dnipro is purchasing five trams with loan funds from the European Investment Bank. These funds cannot be spent on the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, when goods are manufactured in Ukraine, the manufacturing plant and the dozens of contractor enterprises involved in the project pay taxes here. These taxes specifically go toward the needs of our army," he said.
