The state-owned Mariupol Commercial Seaport is installing the most powerful solar-energy system in Ukraine. The system will provide the port with hot water from solar energy, the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority said.

In the summer, the system will allow reduction of gas consumption to zero, resulting in significant savings.

Installation of 252 solar panels on the roof of the port’s coal sorting building is currently nearing completion. According to estimates by experts, the cost of the system will be recouped after four years.

The launch of the solar-energy system is planned for this fall, and the system is expected to reach full capacity next year.
