Additional modular benches that transform into beds during air-raid alerts have been installed at 18 subway stations in Kyiv.

The Kyiv municipal administration announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

According to the statement, Kyivskyi Metropoliten (the operator of the Kyiv subway) did not spend any money on the implementation of the modular bench project.

One such modular bench can accommodate up to four people.

In addition, the modular benches can transform into beds during long air-raid alerts or when subway stations are operating exclusively as bomb shelters.

The other advantages of the design of the modular benches are their compact size when disassembled, their ease of assembly, and their moderate weight.

Currently, the modular benches are available at the following subway stations: Akademmistechko, Shuliavska, Politekhnichnyi Instytut, Vokzalna, Universytet, Tetralna, Khreschatyk, Holosiivska, Demiivska, Palats Ukraina, Olympiiska, Ploscha Lva Tolstoho, Taras Shevchenko, Syrets, Lukianivska, Klovska, Druzhba Narodiv, Pozniaki, and Kharkivska.

The project was implemented with the support of the Ukrainian embassy in Latvia, LITUA kartu, Latvijas Finieris, and the Viche Confederation of Ukrainians of Latvia.
