A modular steel bridge donated by France has opened to traffic on Highway P-69 Vyshhorod - Desna - Chernihiv in the Chernihiv region.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Development of Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
It is the first of the three bridges donated by France to be installed on this highway.
The second bridge was installed on Highway P-69, but it has not yet opened to traffic. The plan is to open it to traffic soon.
The third bridge is planned to be installed on a highway of national importance in the Chernihiv region.
"The key goal of these infrastructural solutions is to establish transport links between Chernihiv and communities on the right bank of Desna River in the region," the statement said.
The French bridges were manufactured by the French company Matiere and donated to Ukraine by the French Crisis and Support Center with the support of the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
The structures were designed specifically to the specifications of the destroyed bridges.
"Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, 27 automobile bridges have been damaged or destroyed in the Chernihiv region. Twenty temporary bridges have already been opened to traffic. Two bridges were restored in 2022, and we will open two more this month. We are overhauling seven additional bridges," the ministry said in the statement.
In total, 154 bridges have been destroyed on state roads throughout Ukraine since 24 February 2022. In 2022, 41 artificial structures were repaired and 81 temporary crossings opened to traffic.
