Norway plans to donate 12 diesel trains to Ukraine.

Norwegian Minister of Transport Jon-Ivar Nygard announced this, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Nettavisen online newspaper.

"We will be able to send four of them by the summer, and maybe eight more during the year. Transport is absolutely necessary for everything to work. Ukraine is at war and a lot of materials, food, and civilian aid need to be transported," the minister said.

The trains that Norway plans to donate are 40 years old.

The minister added that NOK 10-12 million would be spent on the preparation of the trains for dispatch and transportation.

Trains in Norway operate on the 1435 mm track gauge. Therefore, the diesel trains’ carriages will need to be converted to the Ukrainian track gauge of 1520 mm when they are delivered to Ukraine.

As reported earlier, this is not Norway’s first aid to Ukraine. The country donated 10 temporary bridges to the Reconstruction Agency in the winter. The first batch of the bridges arrived in Ukraine on 11 January.
