Road workers have begun the overhaul of a railroad overpass near Nizhyn in the Chernihiv region.
Ukraine’s State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
The railroad overpass is on the highway that connects the Chernihiv region with the Kyiv and Sumy regions.
"This will provide logistical links with neighboring regions and improve transport links in the central districts of the Chernihiv region," the statement said.
Preparatory work - the preparation of the construction site and the dismantling of the destroyed spans of the overpass - is currently underway.
"In the future, concrete structures will be defragmented, crushed, and used as secondary raw materials during the preparation of construction sites or creation of access roads for construction equipment," the agency said.
The new railroad overpass will have two lanes, and it will be capable of handling modern traffic loads.
The overpass near Nizhyn was destroyed during active combat operations in February-March 2022.
In total, 27 bridges were destroyed during the active phase of fighting in the Chernihiv region. The State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure has thus far overhauled four structures, and six structures are under construction.
Another reconstructed bridge on the same route is scheduled to open near the town of Baturyn next month.
