The Pivdennyi seaport handled 1.982 million tons of cargo in April 2020. This figure exceeds the previous record of 1.777 million tons (which was set in March 2020) by 204,400 tons.

The Pivdennyi seaport announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.

According to the statement, ore accounted for the bulk of the transshipment volume.

Compared with April 2019, the volume of export cargo handled by the port increased by 58% to 1.432 million tons in April 2020. The state-owned seaport increased ore transshipment by 82%. It handled 241,800 tons of imported cargo (mostly coking coal).

The Pivdennyi seaport’s berths handled 13 large-capacity bulk carriers in April 2020. Since the beginning of this year, the seaport has received 49 Capesize vessels, which is almost twice the number it received in the same period of last year.

“We reached the level of 1.982 million tons in the short calendar month due to adjustment of cargo operations and optimization of key parts of the production process,” the Pivdennyi seaport’s acting Director Oleksandr Oliynyk said.

As the CFTS portal reported earlier, the Pivdennyi seaport set another record by unloading 988 gondola cars (taking loading into account) on April 11.
