The Ukrainian Association of Cement Manufacturers has said that it is interested in construction of concrete roads but the intention to construct such roads no longer appears in the transport development strategy published by the Ministry of Infrastructure.
The head of the Ministry of Infrastructure’s department of motor vehicles, Roman Khmil, said in comments to the CFTS portal that there are plans to increase the percentage of concrete roads in Ukraine in the long-term future. "However, the problem is that asphalt-concrete [roads] cannot be repaired with concrete. That is, either a major overhaul or construction from scratch. Currently, there is no money for construction of new roads in the budget. However, for those highways that require major repairs, Ukravtodor will prepare projects that provide for both concrete and asphalt-concrete. After a feasibility study, it will become clear which of these two options will be more beneficial," said Khmil.
