Russia will not respond to the new sanctions imposed by Ukraine, the speaker of Russia’s Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, has said. According to her, the expansion of Ukraine’s sanctions list is frivolous and undignified, the Interfax Ukraine News agency reports. At the same time, Matviyenko said she was expressing her personal views.
As reported, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko signed on 16 September the National Security and Defense Council’s decision to expand the list of Russian individuals and entities sanctioned for their involvement in the annexation of the Crimea and aggression in the Donbass industrial region. The companies affected by the sanctions include the Aeroflot airline. This airline faces "restrictions, partial or complete termination of transit of resources, flights, and transportation through the territory of Ukraine." The sanctions were imposed for one year.
The sanctions list also includes transport companies such as Ak Bars Aero, Borisfen-Avia, Russian Helicopters, the Helicopter Service Company, the VІM-AVIA airline company, Gazprom Avia, Donavia, Orenburg Airlines, Red Wings, Russian Airlines, Transaero, the Sevastopol Commercial Seaport, the United Aircraft Corporation, the First Freight Company in Ukraine, and others. Poroshenko said that these restrictive measures affect more than 400 individuals and more than 90 legal entities based in Russia and other countries involved in the annexation of the Crimea and the aggression in the Donbass.
