The Russian Airlines and Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) have signed a codeshare agreement that provides for joint operations on the Kiev-St. Petersburg route, avianews.com reports. Each of the airline companies can now sell tickets for its partner’s flights under its own code.

The total number of joint flights between Kiev and St. Petersburg is currently three per day. Of these, only one flight per day (which departs from Kiev in the mornings) is performed by UIA and two flights per day (departs from Kiev in the mornings and evenings) are performed by the Russian Airlines.

The signing of the agreement with the Russia Airlines is beneficial to Ukraine International Airlines because it allows the company to offer passengers traveling to St Petersburg from cities on its network of routes a greater choice of connect flights at the Boryspil airport. Previously, the existence of only one daily flight operated by the company limited the possible options for connect flights.

In May 2013, UIA signed a codeshare agreement on the joint operations on the Kiev-Riga route with airBaltic, which is essentially the carrier on the route. Both airBaltic and the Russian Airlines previously worked with the AeroSvit airline company before the company went bankrupt.

As reported, the Russian Airlines has a fleet of about 30 aircraft of the models Airbus 319, Airbus 320, and An-148. The carrier is part of the Aeroflot group.

Ukraine International Airlines is the largest airline company in Ukraine. It currently has a fleet of 33 aircraft: 28 Boeing and 5 Embraer-190.
