More passengers are buying train tickets on the internet. Electronic tickets accounted for 25.6% of the total number of tickets sold in the first eight months of this year, which represents an increase of 12.6% over the previous year, the press service of the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) announced.
Sales through Ukrzaliznytsia’s official online service booking.uz.gov.ua also increased. In January-August, Ukrzaliznytsia official online service accounted for 14.8% of the total number of ticket sales, compared with 7.3% during the same period of last year.
The booking.uz.gov.ua website became available to passengers in July 2013.
Currently, electronic tickets can be purchased online for all year-round domestic trains, except summer trains with numbers starting with 600 and 800. For these trains, passengers can buy online forms, which must be exchanged for ordinary train tickets at the ticket office. This service is free.
Purchase of travel documents on the Internet was introduced at the end of 2008. Since then, more than 21 million tickets have been purchased or reserved.
