The cargo ship Kapitan Antipov, owned by the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company (UDP), will be modernized at the ÖSWAG shipyard in Linz (Austria). The ship has already left for Austria via the River Danube.
New engines will be installed on the ship in Linz, the CFTS portal reports, citing the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company.
"It was specifically at ÖSWAG that motor ships of this series were built 40 years ago. The ÖSWAG design office developed the project. ÖSWAG provides a guarantee," the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company said in a statement.
According to the statement, the ship underwent several months of preparation before leaving for Linz: its hull was completely cleaned and painted; its propeller and rudder system, pumps, machinery, etc. were restored.
The ship is expected to operate for 40 more years after the modernization.
As reported previously, the contract for the modernization of the UDP’s first self-propelled ship was signed with the Austrian company in December 2023.
