UIA Toughens Policy On Hand Luggage From 15 January

Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) will change its rules for transportation of hand luggage on all its flights on 15 January 2019, reducing the number of items that can be transported in an aircraft cabin free of charge to one piece of outerwear and an umbrella, the Interfax Ukraine news agency reports.

The new hand-luggage rules will apply to passengers that purchase tickets from 1 November 2018 for flights that will be performed from 15 January 2019.

Passengers that purchase tickets that do not cover transportation of checked baggage will be able to take one piece of hand luggage weighing up to 7 kilograms with maximum dimensions of 55x40x20 centimeters, as well as outerwear and an umbrella on board an aircraft.

Passengers carrying checked baggage and “premium economy” class passengers on long-haul flights will be able to take two pieces of hand luggage on board an aircraft: one weighing up to 7 kilograms with maximum dimensions of 55x40x20 centimeters and one weighing up to 5 kilograms with maximum dimensions of 40x30x10 centimeters (to be placed under the seat in front), as well as outerwear and an umbrella.

Passengers flying business class on medium-haul routes will be able to take two pieces of hand luggage on board an aircraft: one weighing up to 12 kilograms with maximum dimensions of 55x40x20 centimeters and one weighing up to 5 kilograms with maximum dimensions of 40x30x10 centimeters, as well as outerwear and an umbrella.

Business class passengers on long-haul flights will be able to take three hand luggage on board an aircraft: two weighting a total of up to 15 kilograms with maximum dimensions of 55x40x20 centimeters each and one weighing up to 5 kilograms with maximum dimensions of 40x30x10 centimeters, as well as outerwear and an umbrella.

“Any additional personal items, such as Duty Free bags, laptops, reading materials, cameras, binoculars, portlets, and others, should be packed in a carry-on bag. Any personal items that are not packed into a carry-on bag be considered as separate hand luggage or baggage, and they will be allowed only after payment of the fee set for their transportation," the airline said.

In addition, every UIA passenger will be able to take an additional piece of hand luggage weighing up to 5 kilograms with maximum dimensions of 40x30x10 centimeters from 15 January 2019 after paying EUR 15 in advance for its transportation at the departure airport.
