Ukraine has begun importing coke from China, the state information and analysis center for monitoring international commodity markets (Gosvneshinform) announced in a statement.
"In addition to traditional supplies from Russia and Poland, a ship with metallurgical coke of Chinese origin, the price of which is lower than those proposed by neighboring countries by an average of 5%, entered a Ukrainian port in October 2014," the statement said.
According to Gosvneshinform, the export-price quotations for Chinese metallurgical coke (CSR 62%) increased by an average of USD 5 per ton to USD 175-180 per ton on FOB delivery terms during October.
The need to enter the Chinese market is attributed to the fighting in the Donbass industrial region of Ukraine and the consequent disruption of production at many Ukrainian coke enterprises.
