The Ministry of Infrastructure has held negotiations with major Chinese manufacturers of locomotives. First Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Shulmeister announced this at a roundtable on the theme "Modernization of Transport Infrastructure: a New Dialogue between Businesses and Ukrzaliznytsia," the CFTS correspondent reports.
"They have no idea of how to manufacture in Ukraine. We need a large number of dual-system electric locomotives. We refuse to buy directly from China and we are inviting them to launch production here with a maximum number of Ukrainian components, possibly even based on one of our enterprises, not necessarily state-owned enterprises," said Shulmeister.
As reported earlier, the acting general director of the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia), Oleksandr Zavhorodnyi, has already said that negotiations are currently being held with the largest Chinese state company, as well as with the manufacturers Bombardier, Siemens, etc., on sale of new locomotives to Ukrzaliznytsia.
"Currently, we badly need dual-system - AC and DC - electric locomotives for passenger and freight transportation. They will enable us to perform many tasks," said Zavhorodnyi.
