Ukrainian fishing vessels have been allowed to catch aquatic bio-resources and conduct scientific research in Antarctic waters, following the participation of the Ukrainian delegation in the 42nd meeting of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR).
The State Agency for Development of Land Reclamation, Fisheries, and Food Programs announced this in a statement, the CFTS portal reports.
In accordance with the requests of Ukrainian business entities, Ukraine announced its intention to catch Antarctic krill (1 fishing vessel) and toothfish (4 fishing vessels).
"On 1 December 2023, with the start of the new, 2023/2024 fishing season in the CCAMLR area of responsibility, Ukrainian vessels began fishing for valuable Antarctic aquatic bio-resources to ensure their contribution to meeting the food needs of Ukraine and the world," the statement said.
