Ukrainian seaports handled 105.77 million tons of cargo in the period of January-August 2020, according to the latest data from the Ukrainian Seaports Authority (USPA).
The USPA announced this in a Facebook post, the CFTS portal reports.
The 105.77 million tons of cargo that Ukrainian seaports handled during that period was 5 million tons or 5% more than they handled in the corresponding period of last year. Transshipment of export cargo increased by 5.4% to 80.8 million tons, import cargo by 0.9% to 16.1 million tons, transit cargo by 4.6% to 7.3 million tons, and cabotage cargo by 30.8% to 1.6 million tons.
The largest volumes of cargo handled by Ukrainian seaports during this period were ore and grain. Transshipment of grain cargoes amounted to 30.7 million tons and transshipment of ore cargoes amounted to 30.2 million tons (a 27.5% increase compared with the corresponding period of last year). Transshipment of pig iron increased by 49.8% to 2.3 million tons, transshipment of oil by 4.1% to 4 million tons, and transshipment of crude oil 2.5-fold to 1.4 million tons.
Transshipment of containers increased by 9.2% to 690,600 TEU, compared with the corresponding period of last year.
