On July 14, the Ukrzaliznytsia public railway company’s head Wojciech Balczun signed an agreement with the General Electric company on transfer of a locomotive by the American company for test operation on Ukrainian railways.
The press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure announced this to Ukrainian News.
The signing took place at the Ministry of Infrastructure during a ceremony attended by the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Yevhen Kravtsov. Kravtsov expressed the hope that this first step will be the beginning of fruitful cooperation between Ukrzaliznytsia and General Electric.
The locomotive will be delivered to Ukraine within the next two weeks. It will operate on Ukrainian railways for 120 days. Ukrainian experts will include it in the performance of domestic rail transport operations.
Minister of Infrastructure Volodymyr Omelian previously announced the signing of this agreement. Omelian also announced that a memorandum on cooperation with General Electric that is similar to the one that was signed with the Bombardier company (Canada) was being prepared.
As reported, Balczun has signed a memorandum on establishment of a joint venture with Bombardier’s Board Chairman Erwin Gerber. The joint venture will engage in production of locomotives at Ukrainian production facilities.
