Part of the infrastructure of the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (JSC Ukrzaliznytsia) has to be closed due to poor technical conditions, the CFTS portal reports, citing Ukrzaliznytsia.
According to Ukrzaliznytsia, 3,460 sections of railway with a total length of 1,857 kilometers were closed to train traffic at the beginning of 2019.
Numerous speed-limit warnings have been issued for these railway sections because of inadequate technical conditions. The number of such railway sections is constantly increasing. For example, regional railways had issued 251 such warnings as of the end of 2017 and 339 a year later.
As the CFTS portal reported earlier, a locomotive and one of the wagons of an 18-wagon freight train derailed on a section of the single-track Lviv-Khodorov railway near the Stare Selo train station in the Lviv region in the autumn of 2018.
The number of such warnings increased by 88 (35%) in just one year.
