Vandalism has caused damage totaling UAH 3.5 million in almost three years of operation of high-speed trains in Ukraine, the press service of the State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) announced in a statement. This amount does not include the cost of maintenance of electric trains that are out of operation (about UAH 28,000 per day), lost transportation revenue of about UAH 120,000 per day, and more.

The most common act of vandalism was the throwing of stones and other heavy objects at the front and side windows of trains.

Vandals caused damage worth UAH 475,800 to high-speed trains in the first quarter of 2015. Maintenance crews had to replace 23 side window glasses in the salon, six automatic door glasses, and two windshield glasses.

According to a press release, replacement of a windshield glass costs UAH 166,800 and replacement of a side window glass in the salon of UAH 5,881.

More than UAH 1 million was spent on replacement of vandalized train components in 2014, UAH 1.8 million in 2013, and UAH 253,000 in 2012.
