The Lviv Railways launched a new diesel train manufactured by the Kryukov Railcar Building Works on the Lviv-Chernivtsi route on 3 October.
"We have launched a Lviv-Chernivtsi diesel train. This is the beginning of the change of the philosophy on inter-regional rail transport. Ukrzaliznytsia will continue to purchase similar trains," Infrastructure Minister Andrii Pyvovarskyi wrote on his Facebook page.
According to him, Ukrzaliznytsia did not obtain loans for purchase of the train. It spent nearly UAH 110 million of its own revenues.
"In addition, we have found an opportunity to increase Ukrzaliznytsia’s capital investment by UAH 1 billion to UAH 3.4 billion in 2015 through more efficient use of revenues. The extra money will be spent on improvement of infrastructure, repairs of traction, and purchase of new equipment," the minister added.
The train No. 702 covers the distance in three and a half hours. It departs from Lviv at 19:05 and arrives in Chernivtsi at 22:35. On the return journey, it departs from Chernivtsi at 06:14 and arrives in Lviv at 09:45. A ticket costs about UAH 130.
