On 1 July 2025, a plant belonging to the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) officially began comprehensive maintenance of American-built TE33 Evolution freight mainline diesel locomotives.

From now on, the full maintenance cycle—from routine maintenance to overhauls—will be performed centrally at one enterprise, the CFTS portal reports.

According to Yevhen Shramko, the Ukrzaliznytsia board member responsible for the “Repair and Production Division,” this approach focuses on quality, transparency, and the efficient management of rolling stock as a unified strategic asset. "When a locomotive is serviced at various sites, time is lost, accountability becomes diluted, and quality issues arise," Shramko said.

The first stage, which focuses on preventive maintenance to ensure stable operation, prevent breakdowns, and extend the service lives of the locomotives, has now begun, Shramko added.

The first locomotive has already completed this stage of maintenance. The next step—an overhaul—will begin next year.

During a visit to the plant, Shramko stated: "It is time to transition from fragmented repairs to the systematic management of the entire life cycle of equipment." With 29 TE33 Evolution locomotives currently in service, there will be no shortage of work.
