The Dnipro Diesel Locomotive Repair Plant (DTRZ), part of the Repair and Manufacturing Division of the Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (JSC Ukrzaliznytsia), has delivered the first overhauled TEP70 mainline passenger diesel locomotive to the customer in 2025, the CFTS portal reports.

"The mastering of TEP70 repairs is a historical milestone for the enterprise," the company said in a statement.

The TEP70 is important for passenger transportation because it is used on non-electrified railway sections. Since not all railways in Ukraine are electrified, its role in transportation is important.

At the same time, the TEP70 is one of the most difficult types of diesel locomotives to repair because of its specific design and complex technological process.

"It usually takes up to a year for plants to master the repair of this type of equipment. However, the DTRZ team completed the task in a record two months," the company said.

The locomotive will be stationed at a depot in the Sumy region.

It is the second locomotive of the TEP70 series to be successfully repaired at the plant. The first one was delivered on 31 December 2024, a milestone for the plant and Ukrzaliznytsia.

"Diesel locomotives of this series are crucial for passenger transport. That is why we pay special attention to their repair and rapid commissioning. We plan to deliver the next TEP70 diesel locomotive to the customer in June 2025, and we will start work on it in April," said Yevhen Shramko, a member of Ukrzaliznytsia's board of directors.
