The State Railway Administration (Ukrzaliznytsia) is initiating increase of freight rates by a further 25% this year. Ukrzaliznytsia’s acting General Director Maksym Blank announced this at the Ukrainian Forum on Infrastructure Development (UFID) 2015 in Kiev on 26 February, the CFTS correspondent reports.

According to Blank, such a decision is being prepared because of the continuing devaluation of the national currency.

Ukrzaliznytsia clarified that the draft the relevant document has not yet been sent to the Ministry of Infrastructure.

As CFTS reported, railway freight rates were last raised less than a month ago - on 31 January. The 30% increase applied to all categories of goods, except bituminous coal (the rate for bituminous coal was raised by 10% in February, and it will be raised by a further 18.2% in April).
