The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (JSC Ukrzaliznytsia) is providing Wi-Fi access in 75% of its high-speed trains.
The press service of the railway company announced this in a statement in response to an information request from the Interfax Ukraine news agency, the CFTS portal reports.
"Work on the installation of equipment for Internet access in intercity trains is currently being completed in accordance with the approved investment project 'Implementation of a Telecommunications Network in Intercity Trains and Organization of Wireless Access to Internet Resources…' The necessary equipment has already been installed in 75% of high-speed trains," Ukrzaliznytsia said in the statement.
According to the statement, commissioning and fine-tuning work is underway, and the corresponding tests are being conducted. During the testing phase, passengers are being provided with internet access and the quality of the services is being analyzed.
As reported previously, in August 2023, Ukrzaliznytsia signed a contract for the installation of a telecommunications network in Intercity high-speed trains and the organization of wireless internet access for UAH 78.89 million. The internet project aims to cover 10 Hyundai trains, 2 Škoda trains, 2 EKR-1 "Tarpan" trains, and 2 MPLT trains.
Therefore, it can be inferred that Ukrzaliznytsia has already equipped 12 high-speed trains with Wi-Fi.
