The Ukrainian Railways joint-stock company (Ukrzaliznytsia) reached 45% of its 2019 passenger traffic toward the beginning of 2021.
Oleksandr Pertsovskyi, an acting board member of Ukrzaliznytsia and the head of the Passenger Company, which is a division of Ukrzaliznytsia, announced this on his Facebook page, the CFTS portal reports.
"A 45% recovery of passenger traffic in 2019. We started with a figure of <30% in October-November. We are going against possibly the transport industry’s most difficult period in a decade," Pertsovskyi wrote.
Pertsovskyi also said that the company resumed train services to up to 17 destinations ahead of the peak season, launched a special Ski Express train to Slavske, and launched a train service between Kyiv with Avdiivka for the first time in six years.
As the CFTS reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia expected its traffic volume during the New Year and Orthodox Christmas period to be 65% of the previous year’s volume. Ukrzaliznytsia also announced that the operation of additional trains would enable the company to reach almost 1 million ticket sales during the holiday period.
